Epilation FAQs for Silk-épil epliators
The most important questions and answers on epilation, compiled by the beauty experts from Braun Silk-épil.
Reducing Hair Growth with Epilation
This is very simple: the hair is removed at the root - not with the root. However, removing hairs at the root means that hair won’t grow back until weeks have passed.
Does more hair grow back if I epilate?
No, this has been proven in dermatological tests. In fact, studies show that ongoing epilation reduces the amount of hair regrowth.
Does more hair grow back darker if I epilate?
No, your hair will not actually grow back darker after epilating. It may appear so, however, because the hair that grows back has its natural colour and is not bleached by the sun or the use of soap, etc.
When is the best time to epilate?
Evenings are the ideal time for your epilating session. You will feel relaxed, and any minor skin irritations that may occur, including little bumps and redness, will disappear over night. Plus: You’ll wake up wonderfully smooth-legged in the morning!
How Do I best prepare my Skin for epilating?
The best preparation for epilating is a nice, warm shower. It will leave your skin clean and relaxed. Be sure to use a gentle, pH-neutral shower gel, and keep the water warm, not hot, to avoid drying out your delicate skin. - Epilation on wet skin with the new Silk-épil 7 Wet&Dry is even gentler and perfect for use in the shower or bath.
I have never epilated before - how should I go about it?
Braun’s Silk-épil epilators are a fantastic choice for first-time users. Their active massage rollers softly stimulate your skin with micro pulsations before and after removing the hair, leaving your skin relaxed. Epilating on wet skin with the new Silk-épil 7 Wet&Dry is especially gentle and perfect for under the shower or in your bath. - Still, if you are inexperienced, you may feel a little discomfort during your first epilating sessions. This will decrease with each session, as the skin adjusts to the process. Also, the individual hairs grow back at different speeds depending on their particular growth cycle, so that there will be less hair to remove after the first epilation.
How can “problem hairs" – like flat-lying hairs – be addressed?
Some epilation systems can leave "problem hairs" behind, especially flat lying hairs or very short hairs. Silk-épil 7 and Silk-épil 5 products have been developed with SoftLift tips® which lift those flat lying and shortest hairs and
How can I avoid ingrown hairs?
An ingrown hair is a hair that curls back on itself and grows back towards the follicle, creating a small, little bump. Ingrown hairs are often a result of too-close shaving. To avoid ingrown hairs, try exfoliating regularly – this helps remove dead skin cells and “clears the path” so that your hairs can grow the way they’re supposed to. However, you shouldn’t exfoliate directly before or after epilating, since that would put too much of a strain on your skin.
Is epilation painful?
Silk-épil epilators have been developed especially to minimize any discomfort and irritation. Pre-epilation wipes from Olay prime the skin beforehand and massaging rollers help to relax the skin as you use the epilator. Being able to use the product in water also reduces discomfort and irritation.
What are the benefits of epilating with an in-water epilator?
Warm water relaxes and soothes your skin. The warmth improves your micro-circulation, stimulates the production of pain-reducing substances and makes your skin less sensitive. This is why the tugging sensation is considerably reduced in water. This is confirmed by a study conducted by the German dermatologist Dr. med. Petra Staubach at the University of Mainz. The majority of participants felt no or only a slight tugging sensation.
